Summer heat puts a serious strain on your AC. When temps spike, your system works overtime - and a few small habits can make a big difference in how well it keeps up.
First, keep your thermostat set between 75 and 78 degrees. It sounds simple, but setting it lower than that forces your system to run harder than it needs to. Pair that with closing your blinds during the hottest part of the afternoon, and your AC gets a little breathing room. If you have a smart thermostat, even better - you can program it to pre-cool your home before peak heat hits without wasting energy while you're away.
Don't overlook the basics either. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons systems struggle to cool properly. Check yours regularly and swap it out when it looks clogged. Make sure all your vents and returns are open and unobstructed - blocked airflow makes the whole system work harder. And walk around your outdoor unit every so often to clear away leaves, grass clippings, or anything else piling up around it.
Here's something worth knowing: during extreme heat, it's normal for your AC to run longer cycles than usual. That alone isn't a red flag. But if it's blowing warm air, freezing up, or flat out not cooling the space - those are signs something's actually wrong and it's time to call someone. Our annual maintenance plans are designed to catch those issues before they turn into bigger problems, especially when your system is under the most stress.
We put this together because we genuinely want your summer to be comfortable. A well-maintained system runs more efficiently, lasts longer, and costs less to operate. Small stuff matters - and we're always here when it doesn't.
