Finishing a basement comes with one big question nobody wants to deal with late in the process - how do you heat and cool it? Extending existing ductwork is expensive, invasive, and sometimes just not practical depending on the layout of your home. So we went a different route.

We installed a Gree Livo 20 SEER2 ductless mini-split system as part of a full basement renovation. The 12,000 BTU wall-mount unit goes up on the wall before the finishing work is complete, which is exactly the right time to do it. That way, everything gets framed in cleanly and the unit looks like it belongs there once the walls are done.

The outdoor side of the system is a 12,000 BTU heat pump sitting on a solid pad against the brick exterior. Clean, stable, properly supported. The line set runs neatly from the indoor unit through the wall to the outdoor unit - no exposed mess, no sloppy routing.

What makes a setup like this worth it? A 20 SEER2 rating means it's one of the more efficient systems on the market right now. You get real heating AND real cooling from one compact unit, with no ductwork required. For a basement renovation, that's a huge win. You're not tearing into existing systems or spending extra on duct runs.

If you're planning a basement finish and haven't figured out the HVAC piece yet, this is the kind of solution that makes the whole thing simpler. We handle the install at the right stage of your renovation so everything comes together the way it should.
